What are cookies?

Typically, a browser cookie is small line of programming text used to authenticate or identify a registered user of a Web site. Cookies "remember" you, which means each time you access a particular site you don’t have to sign-in every time, or give the same information you gave before.

Why Salon Channel uses cookies

Browser cookies allow Salon Channel to personalize your online experience. Cookies allow you to:

  • View and print out your personalized Salon Channel Certificates of Completion.
  • Have order information stored confidentially to make future order processing easier.
  • Start a module and then be able to finish it on another day, or at another time at the same point where you previously stopped.

To check if you have allowed or disallowed cookies (or to change your cookie setting) just follow the simple steps.

Which browser do you use?

Microsoft® Internet Explorer Users

Netscape® Navigator or Netscape® Communicator Users.

Microsoft® Internet Explorer Users

  1. Open Internet Explorer. You can do this by double clicking on the shortcut icon on the desktop or go to Start (lower left corner of your screen) – ProgramsInternet Explorer.
  2. Once the program has fully loaded click on the View option at the very top of the screen on the menubar.
  3. When you see the dropdown menu choose Internet options.
  4. Choose the tab labeled Advanced. (It should be the last one on the far right.)
  5. Scroll down until you see an exclamation point on a yellow background labeled Cookies.
  6. Underneath Cookies you should see three options or buttons. ("Always except cookies" is the default from Microsoft and may already be selected.)
  7. Select either the "Prompt before checking cookies" or "always except cookies" option if you want to take advantage of the benefits of cookies.
  8. Click the OK option at the bottom of the window and you are ready to enjoy the full Salon Channel training experience.

Netscape® Navigator or Netscape® Communicator Users

  1. Open Netscape Communicator or Netscape Navigator. You can do this by double clicking the shortcut icon on the desktop or go to Start (lower left corner of your screen) – ProgramsNetscape Communicator or Netscape Navigator.
  2. Once the program has fully loaded select Edit (at the very top of the screen).
  3. Choose Preferences from the dropdown menu.
  4. A new window titled Preferences will appear.
  5. Under Category double click the word Advanced. After double clicking Advanced you should have a new set of checkboxes and options listed to the right.
  6. The last set of options is labeled Cookies and it contains four options.
  7. To use Cookies choose "Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server". This is the default setting from Netscape. If you have the "Accept all cookies" option already selected this is okay.
  8. Click the OK button and you are ready to enjoy the full Salon Channel training experience.
